The St. John Fisher College (SJFC) Robert Noyce Scholar Program, Fisher Scholars for Rural Schools (FISCHRS), is a program to increase the number of qualified and effective mathematics teachers in high-needs rural K-12 schools. This program, which is funded by a five-year grant from the National Science Foundation, will provide scholarships to students pursuing certification in Adolescence Education (Grades 7-12) in mathematics. The scholarships will cover up to the total cost of attendance for three years - Junior and Senior year of the undergraduate mathematics program, and one year of work in the Graduate Program in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (GMST) - at St. John Fisher College. At the end of this time, scholarship recipients will have earned at least a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and initial teacher certification in Adolescence Mathematics Education. In addition to the scholarship, the program will include enhanced advisement for students, field placement partnerships, and expanded mentoring and induction support for teachers after they receive initial certification.
