Cow Photos

I've been photographed in front of numerous replicas of large bovine animals. This page is your chance to see the cows! Each image is a thumbnail; click on it to see an enlarged version. If you know of a large bovine animal you think I should see, send me an e-mail and I will try to get to it!

Behind the Kopp's frozen custard stand in Glendale, Wisconsin (just north of Milwaukee) stands a herd of 23 plastic cows. Most of the cows are white, but some are black. Kopp's custard is several orders of magnitude better than anything I've had in New York (sorry New Yorkers), and they also serve large, greasy burgers at this store. It's always busy here.
For those who object that there are only Wisconsin and Minnesota cows on this page, I have recently added a picture of me by the large cow which stands behind the Lollypop Farm near the hamlet of Egypt in the town of Perinton, New York. Lollypop Farm is a humane society for animals. It's more than just a place to adopt pets - there are barnyard animals around the premises which make it feel like a petting zoo. Aderyn liked the goats the best.
This large bovine stands outside Hoepner's bakery in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The sign is actually for Heckel's restaurant, which recently closed.
Here I am in front of a rusty cow at the corner of 5th St. NE and 37th Ave NE in Nordeast Minneapolis, Minnesota. This rusty cow occupies a small vacant lot on the southeast corner of the intersection. There is a park across the street, but the cow seems completely disconnected from it. I figured I better get my picture taken in front of this one before somebody realizes how much of a safety concern a large rusty cow must be. Also, this area is undergoing a lot of new development, and a rusty cow might be seen as an eyesore.

This is a twilight picture of me in front of the large cow displayed by the exit off of interstate 94 near Osseo, Wisconsin. In the picture, the cow is advertising Moe's "almost famous" diner. I believe the restaurant used to be a second location of Heckel's (see above).
Here I am by Paul Bunyan and his large bovine, Babe the Blue Ox. This large bovine stands guard in Bemidji, MN. This picture was taken by myself. I had a hard time getting the camera to function properly because the temperature was around -22 degrees (Fahrenheit). Babe was built in 1937, and could originally be put on a truck, which would take him to parades throughout the country. Paul Bunyan was built a year earlier, and apparently was modeled after the mayor of Bemidji at the time. That's one funny-looking mayor! See the Visit Bemidji Website for more details.
I'm standing in front of Chatty Belle in Neillsville, Wisconsin. Chatty Belle claims to be the world's largest talking cow. Chatty Belle was built for the Wisconsin pavillion of the 1964 World's Fair in New York. Both Chatty Belle and the pavillion building itself were moved to Neillsville. By feeding Chatty Belle's coin-operated box, you can hear her talk. She explains why she was built, and tells how much milk a cow her size could produce. She used to have a calf, Bullit, which stood next to her. Apparently due to vandalism, Bullit has been permanently removed. Bullit was a mute.
This is one of two large bovines on the Saint Paul campus of the University of Minnesota. The University has two separate campuses, one in Minneapolis and the other in Saint Paul. All of the agriculture-related programs are run on the Saint Paul campus, which is likely why it was chosen as the site for this large bovine.
And, of course, here is the other cow in Saint Paul, Minnesota. It has the distinction of being the only bovine in this collection who is fully lying down.
