Examples of correct use of singular/plural consistency:

Correct the singular/plural inconsistency in the following sentences:

  1. No matter what happens during a divorce, the child is always caught in the middle. They have to choose between parents or the courts will do it for them.


  2. One may carry it on their person.


  3. We have to face the facts we could preach abstinence till we are blue in the face, but if a child wants to have sex, they will. [Note: this is also a run-on sentence.]


  4. Although the reader may not agree with my viewpoint, I hope that they can see why I feel this way.


  5. In any of these situations the child loses more than knowledge, but maybe even their life.


  6. In my opinion the parents should start sex education with their children at a young age. Then when their children get to the age where they are going through puberty the school system should then do their part in educating the children about sex.


  7. When a young adult chooses to become sexually active or decides to use drugs, they are making decisions that can change their life forever.


  8. Some teachers allow certain students special privileges because they like that students.


  9. In order for a student to succeed at the college he is at or to succeed in life after school, they need to have a high school education.
