For your Volcano Project, you are
going to be able to make your own erupting Volcano!!
Here is a
quick video to give you an
idea on how to make your very own Volcano!!
A volcano is a place on the earth's surface where molten rock and other materials reach the surface. There are many different types of volcanoes and different strengths of the eruptions. Volcanic eruptions usually discharge lava, dust, ashes, and various sizes of rocks. Follow these easy steps to make your volcano at home- but of course this one will not have real hot lava!!!
Materials Needed:
* Piece of Cardboard or Plywood
* 2 Cups Flour
* 2 Cups Water
* Strips of newspaper, about 1 inch wide
* Empty bottle
* 1 tablespoon baking soda
* 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap
* 1/4 cup of vinegar
* Pain or coloring markers
Procedure:
1. Place an empty and opened bottle on a piece of cardboard or wood.
2. Crunch up newspapers or use pieces of cardboard to make a volcano shape. This does not have to be too complex, just a basic mountain shape.
3. Mix the flour and water together until it makes a smooth paste.
4. Dip the newspaper strips in the mixture, one at a time and place onto the volcano structure.
5. Smooth out the wrinkles and continue to place coated newspaper over the volcanoes surface until it is completely covered and is in the shape of a volcano. Just make sure that you leave the opening to the bottle uncovered and near the top.
6. Set aside and allow the volcano to dry overnight.
7. Pain or color the volcano if desired
8. When you are ready, add the baking soda, liquid soap, and food coloring to the bottle.
9. As a last step, add the vinegar and watch the volcano erupt with "lava"
