Federal Legislation
Individuals with
Disabilities Education Act: (IDEA) provides information regarding how the
national and state governments provides special education services to
children with disabilities.
Alliance for
Technology Access: are a national alliance which provides technology
resources in regards to education and information on community-based and
advocacy organizations.
National
Association of Special Education Teachers: is an association of
special education teachers from across the country who provides various
resources and information to be used in and outside of the classroom.
National
Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities (NICHCY):
provides information on all of the disability categories for infants,
toddlers, children, and youth. They also provide great information and
ideas for teaching students with disabilities and information on many of
the large pieces of legislation, such as the IDEA and No Child Left
Behind.
Council For Exceptional Children (CEC): is dedicated to improving the
educational success of individuals with disabilities and/or gifts and
talents. They advocate for appropriate governmental policies, set
professional standards, provide professional development, advocate for
individuals with exceptionalities, and help professionals obtain
conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice

New York State
Education Department: provides detailed information regarding all
services and regulations within the state education department.

Higher Education Support Center (HESC): organization within the
state which focuses on quality teacher training programs, making
adjustments and advancements in schools, and also adequate preparation
for inclusive schooling for teachers, students, and parents.
Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities
(VESID): provides a full range of services that may be needed by
people with disabilities throughout their lives and promote educational
equity and excellence for students with disabilities. They coordinate
policy and services related to special education services for students
with disabilities ages 3-21 and provide resources on the IDEA,
behavioral interventions, special education state performances plan and
publications about special education.
New York State United Teachers
(NYSUT): provides information for teachers, as well as other individuals
interested, regarding working with students with disabilities and as
history and processes of creating programs and services for children
with or without disabilities. This website also provides lots of
information about disabilities and special education and information
about general education as well. Their goal is to improve the quality of
education and healthcare for the people of New York.
New York
Congress of Parents and Teachers, Inc. (NYS PTA): is a branch of the
National PTA, which is the oldest and largest
child advocacy group in the nation. They believe that every child
deserves excellence in education and in quality of life and collaborate
with schools, planning their programs and activities to meet the needs
of the children and youth in their community. Their main purpose is to
secure adequate laws, regulations and policies for the care and
protection of children and youth.
Local Legislation
LDA Life and
Learning Services: a non-profit agency which helps individuals with
disabilities for education, work, relationships, and future independency.
Monroe #1 BOCES
(Board of Cooperative
Educational Services):
coordinates innovative educational enrichment programs to help students
reach beyond classroom walls. They also cooperatively provide
cost-saving programs, especially for students at risk, special needs
students with disabilities, students who need help meeting the
standards, students preparing for careers, and adults in the community
needing to expand their skills.
Rochester City
School District: provides information about the schools within this
local school district and all of the upcoming events happening at them.
Their website also provides information about the services offered
within their schools, and all of the information one would want about
what goes on within their school's walls.
Heritage Christian
Services: supports over 1,400 children and adults with developmental
disabilities through the operation of 56 residential homes, service
coordination, 20-day habilitation programs, and health services. They
were inducted into the COMPASS program as one of New York State's top
service providers to people with special needs.
