The brain is constantly receiving and channeling hundreds of messages. These messages are perceived through our senses!
  • Hearing
  • Seeing
  • Smelling
  • Tasting
  • Touching
  • Moving

The brain consists of THREE major parts!
  1. Cerebrum
  2. Cerebellum
  3. Brain stem

CEREBRUM

*Largest part of the brain
*Associated with higher brain thought and action
*Split into left and right cerebral hemisperes

The cerebral cortex is divided into FOUR sections called lobes.

Frontal Lobe

Associated with reasoning, planning, parts of speech, movement, emotions, and problem solving

Temporal Lobe

Associated with perception, recognition, memory and speech

Occipital Lobe

Associated with visual processing

Parietal Lobe

Associated with movement, recognition, and perception

CEREBELLUM

*Controls and coordinates movements of the muscles
*Helps with posture and balance

BRAIN STEM

*Keeps the automatic systems of the body working
*Keeps your heart beating
*Makes you breathe
*Controls the muscles in your face
*Helps to keep you conscious

The Brain is divded into TWO halves!

Left Side

*Controls movement on the right side of the body
*Language acquisition
Right Side
*Controls the left side of the body
