Professional Goals
Jonnie wishes to complete her four years at St. John Fisher College, and obtain a Bachellor of Arts degree in Spanish, as well as a dual minor in English and Peace and Social Justice Studies. During her four years at college, Jonnie hope to complete at least one semester abroad in Granada, Spain in the Spring 2012 semester. Depending on her experience, she will later decide whether to study abroad again during her Junior or Senior years at Fisher.
There are many opportunities with a Spanish major. Jonnie's primary career goal is to be able to teach English as a second language to non-English speakers. She would like to become certified for TESL, then hoping to live in a Spanish-speaking country for a few years after graduation to do so. While TESL, Jonnie wants to obtain her masters degree in Education, then return back to the United States to teach at a University level.
Achievements
Jonnie has obtained an advanced regents diploma in June of 2010, and continuing her educational track at St. John Fisher College. In high school, she was ranked in the top ten of her class. Jonnie was actively involved in the student body at Newfane Senior High School. During her freshman year, she was elected as her class secretary, followed by her sophomore year, when she was her class president. All throughout high school, Jonnie has been an energetic member of the school's Student Senate. She held the position of President during her junior and senior year. Here, she helped cordinate various activities including Homecoming, Mr. Newfane Beauty Pageant, and Spirit Week activities. J During her Junior year, Jonnie was elected as the Class of 2010 representitve for both the District's Safety Committee, as well as the high school's Building Planning Team. She served for two years in both committees. Jonnie had also met one to two times a month with her high school principal, Steve Burley, along with about a dozen other student representatives. This group, the Principal-Student Advisory, discussed and resolved issues the student body was facing. onnie also was the President for Newfane's Model U.N. team as well. Being involved in this organization advance Jonnie to become involved in the Hague International Model United Nations of 2010. This U.N. stimulation occured in the Hague, the political capital of the Netherlands. Jonnie is greatly appreciative of all the oppurtunities she received during these high school years.
Jonnie entered St. John Fisher college on the academic level of a sophomore, due to the amount of college-credits that she had recieved in high school. She has now completed with her freshman year at the institution. During this first year, Jonnie has immersed herself into the Fisher Community. She proudly participated in Teddi Dance for Love, which is a 24-hour dance marathon raising money for Camp Good Days.
Jonnie had also been selected as a member of the Spring Event Committee for 2011. This event is one of the largest events on campus, and typically includes either a musician or comedian. The 2011 event was the famous rapper, Sam Adams. As a part of the Hospitality Committee, Jonnie made sure that Mr. Adams, as well as the opening bands and their staffs were well comforted at Fisher.
Jonnie most recently was chosen as a staff member of Residence Assistants. Jonnie will be serving as an RA for the Fall 2011 semester.
