South America can be found in the South Western Hemisphere.

The latitude of the center of South America is 14° 36' 17" S.
The longitude of the center of South America is 57° 39' 22" W.

South America touches the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east.


South America is the 4th largest continent in the world.
It covers close to 3.5% of the Earths surface.

The largest mountain range in South America is the Andes.
The Andes mountain range goes from the southern tip of South America, all up the western side of the continent. It is the longest mountain range in the world!

The most important river in South America is the Amazon River and it is the second largest river in the world.
It is unique because it runs South to North, from Peru to the Atlantic Ocean.

The Amazon Rainforest is the largest rainforest.
This rainforest is located throughout parts of Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, and Columbia.

The climate throughout South America is mostly wet, humid and warm.
The temperature throughout South America normally hovers between 70-90 degrees Fahrenheit, although it varies by region.
Even though the climate is so warm, the Andes Mountain stay cold due do their elevation.


South America has an estimated population of 371 million currently.
This population puts them at the 5th most populated continent in the world.

Major Landmarks in South America:

Some major landmarks in South America are the:
Amazon Rainforest, Andes Mountains, Machu Picchu, Iguazu Falls,
and the Myan and Aztec Ruins.

Major Religions:

The most predominate religion is Christianity but there are many Indigenous religions as well.
Also, there are many spiritual and/or ethnic beliefs based on the different cultures found in South America.

Endangered Animals:

Some endangered animals in South America are the:
Armadillo, Bats, Owl, Dolphins, Jaguar, Ocelot, Snakes, Whales, and the Wolf.
