The Museum of 19th Century Dance was founded in 2013 by Katelyn Kingsbury. The museum was created in order to showcase and to educate the public about 19th century dance, dress and etiquette. We wanted to be able to create a place where it felt like you were actually in the 19th century. Our museum is focused on the art of dance and what clothing would have been worn back in that time period, as well as, the etiquette and class that was displayed between people at dances. We offer classes in dance, classes for making period appropriate clothes for men and women, and dance etiquette for men and women.

Our museum is open year round and features a display case with period appropriate outfits for all different occasions that date from 1800-1899. We have an annual contest where members can compete to make outfits that would have been worn in the 19th century. Whoever makes their outfit the most period appropriate, will have their outfit featured in our display case of outfits. Everything that we do at our museum is done inside buildings that were built in the 19th century, taken from their original sites, and brought to our museum to be preserved and become historic sites.
