RATIONALE

Teacher:

This allows the teacher to approach problem-solving in an interactive and creative way.  It provides a chance for the teacher to explore within the topic themselves, in order to have a more complete understanding of MST integration to present the material to students.  This activity assists the teacher in evaluating students’ ability to use their knowledge of mathematics, science, and technology, as well as apply problem solving skills to analyze their surroundings.  The teacher can use this lesson to differentiate the classroom based on student needs.

Student:

This lesson is a fun and interesting way to change the course of the class to enrich learning.  Students have the opportunity to work collaboratively in groups to use real life situations to relate to their studies.  This lesson encourages them to problem solve and analyze the big picture of the situation through a variety of methods.  They are able to increase their knowledge in forensics and mathematics analysis.  It also gives them a real life perspective on the ways in which MST has practical purposes.
