CSCI 170 - Internet Resources
Assignment #6

Part I

Now that you have decided what you are going to do for your final project, sit down and start thinking about it. Determine what type of information you are going to place on your page. Create an outline for your final project as discussed in class and email this to me (put "CSCI170 Assignment 6" in the subject). You can type it directly into the body of the email or send it to me in a Word document. Keep in mind that what you put in your outline is not necessarily set in stone - you may later determine that some minor things need changing.

Example:

The following is an example outline for the CSCI170 Course Page. It is not complete. The one you hand in will be though! Do NOT hand in this outline - you must create one for your final project, not for your existing pages. If any of this is unclear, ASK!

  1. CSCI170 Internet Resources Main Page
This page will simply serve as a jump point to the other parts of the class pageset. It contains links to the pages listed below.
    1. Link to Syllabus Page
    2. Link to Schedule
    3. Link to Image Map example
  2. Course Syllabus Page

  4. Image Map Example
Several example active image maps will be displayed on this page.

There will be a total of 9 pages for each of the 9 assignments. Each page will contain:
    1. Assignment Number
    2. Due Date
    3. Description of Assignment
    4. Examples, if necessary
    5. Date updated
    6. Instructor's email address

Part II

Locate a decent picture of yourself worthy of scanning and posting on the internet. (If you are not comfortable putting a picture of yourself on the Web, please choose some other picture to scan in). Use the procedure explained here with the scanner in the open lab of Kearney. Ask the lab assistant if you run into problems. Save this graphic file as a JPEG or GIF to your floppy disk. (Do you remember which graphic format is best for photographic images?)

Now, FTP this graphic file into your account (in the public_html directory) and place it on your index.html file (either in-line or create a link to the graphic). Be sure to place a caption near the picture to explain what it is!
