Graphing Functions of Two Variables

Graphing the function y = f(x) produces a curve in the two dimensional space of the xy-plane. To graph the function z = f(x,y), we need to draw a surface in three dimensions-x, y and z. Since we don't yet possess three dimensional paper, techniques for graphing and visualizing such functions have been developed. We start with the simplest approach, where we investigate the functions behavior one variable at a time.
