Flammable water
Back to Schedule 2024
In this experiment, the glass flask was filled with vapors of hexane, which is a flammable material. Then, water was added, hexane condensate was formed on top of water, and it was ignited. The reason that hexane stays on top of water is because it is not mixible with water and it has a lower density. It makes an illusion that water is burning, while in reality a thin layer of hexane burns on top of water.
