Dr. Marie Cianca

Dr. Cianca received her Ed.D in Educational Leadership from the University of Rochester in 2001. She is also certified as a School District Administrator and has certifications in Special Education and Social Studies. Dr. Cianca received her M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from the State University of New York at Brockport. Her undergraduate studies included a Bachelor of Science degree in History/Secondary Education from SUNY Brockport.

Dr. Cianca joined the SJFC School of Education full time in September, 2007. Prior to her full time position, she was an adjunct professor at SJFC teaching courses to local educators pursuing a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership.  

Dr. Cianca held a variety of positions before joining the faculty at St. John Fisher. Most of those positions were in the Rochester City School District where she served as a Special Education Teacher, Social Studies Teacher, Special Education Training Specialist, Coordinating Administrator of Special Education, Principal,  and Managing Director for Student Support Services. For five years, Dr. Cianca  was Chief of School Development and Academics responsible for the supervision of  core curriculum areas and elementary and secondary schools. 

In her most recent years at the RCSD, Dr. Cianca worked first under the direction of  Dr. Clifford Janey, who later became Superintendent  of Schools in Washington, D.C..  She was then selected to be part of Dr. Manuel Rivera’s executive staff for five years, including 2006 when Dr. Rivera was recognized as National Superintendent of the Year.  Earlier in her career, Dr. Cianca worked for several years in the New York State Department of Education with Lawrence C. Gloeckler, former Deputy Commissioner for VESID and nationally recognized consultant in Special Education.  Dr. Cianca owes much of her success to the opportunities to learn from such knowledgeable and skilled leaders in the field of education.
