Applications of Derivatives

We often use mathematical equations to model real world situations. We may have, for instance, a function which represents the profit our company will make for selling x units of product A and y units of product B. Obviously, we'd like to make the highest profit possible. This means that we must examine how the profit function changes with x and y. In mathematical terms, the behavior of a function as the independent variables change is related to the derivatives of the function.
